Bird’s Nest is a Japanese izakaya and yakitori bar brand serving traditional binchō-tan charcoal-grilled skewers alongside modern Japanese gourmet dishes. Founded by Brisbane restaurant owners Emi Kamada and Marie Yokoyama — winners of the first season of The Hotplate, the brand celebrates craftsmanship, premium ingredients and a welcoming dining experience with something for everyone.
Each Bird’s Nest location expresses its own personality within a cohesive visual system: West End flagship venue: refined, contemporary and rooted in Japanese culinary tradition; Toowong; manga-inspired, playful, fast-casual store, and Fortitude Valley; whisky & sake bar — moody, elegant and intimate, evoking late-night Japanese bar culture.
The partnership spanned full brand development and ongoing creative support, including menus, staff bandanas and t-shirts, takeaway packaging, and a suite of adaptable design templates. This long-term approach resulted in a flexible yet recognisable brand ecosystem — one that honours Japanese grill culture while evolving for diverse dining formats and vibrant Brisbane audiences.
