Hato
Gyoza and grill
Hato is a Japanese snack bar tucked down a hidden laneway in the heart of Brisbane City, serving fast, flavour-packed Japanese bites. The core challenge was visibility — despite its central location, the venue was easy to miss, and needed a bold, creative intervention to attract foot traffic and spark social engagement.
To transform the space, a vibrant hand-drawn mural and poster installation was created, blending contemporary Japanese typography, playful food-inspired illustrations and bold graphic energy. Over 70 unique posters were designed and installed along the alley wall, creating an immersive visual trail that guides customers toward the shopfront. Every illustration was drawn by hand, giving the space an authentic, crafted feel and reinforcing the brand’s personality.
This eye-catching, Instagram-worthy landmark not only improves visibility but also delivers a memorable brand moment — turning an overlooked laneway into a lively, photogenic entry experience that stops passers-by in their tracks and invites them into Hato’s world.
